Why You Should Try MarketRiders

Use asset allocation - the smartest strategy for your core portfolio

Most people still believe that the best way to manage their money is to either pick stocks themselves or pay for trusted advice from investment advisers, brokers, or mutual fund managers so that they can "beat the market." But for years, sophisticated families and elite institutions have achieved superior returns with a very different method of investing that was developed by Economics and Finance Nobel Laureates.

Their secret involves implementing a sophisticated asset allocation strategy with a globally diversified portfolio, keeping investment costs low and rebalancing their portfolios as markets ebb and flow. Because they don't pick stocks and they don't try to time the market, they have less stress than active traders. They are investing, not gambling.

With MarketRiders you too can, implement these strategies for your Core portfolio.

Want to play a hunch or capitalize on an insight you might have on a market trend? Make those investments in what experts call your "Explore" portfolio. But by managing your Core portfolio with MarketRiders, you will rest assured that you are doing right for you and your family by standing on the shoulders of some of the best investment minds in the world.

Protect your money from devastating fees and taxes

Having worked hard as a professional in your field, you understand what it means to be an expert at what you do. It seems logical that you could in turn hire professionals to provide outstanding investment returns.

But largely because of fees they charge, these pros fall tragically short of the index they compete against. In any given year, and depending on the index of comparison, 80% of money managers underperform the market. The real travesty is seen when you evaluate this performance out over time. Within ten years, over 90% of the pros underperform, and after 20 years, 97% underperform.

And worse for you, these management fees and taxes can mean the difference between your retirement in luxury or living in a tent.

Even a conservative analysis shows you're probably paying 3% of all your money every year, to have others help you manage it. Mutual funds charge annual loads averaging 1.25% and hidden 12b1 marketing expenses that together cost you on average about 1.5% a year. If you use an investment advisor, add another 1% to 1.5% a year. Finally, have you checked the taxes you're paying on your investments? On average mutual fund taxes erode 1% - 2% off your returns because managers churn all the stocks an average of once every 18 months. This produces capital gains and dreaded taxes each April 15th.

A MarketRiders portfolio is constructed using the lowest-cost, most tax efficient, well-constructed exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that have average annual fees of 0.2%. You might not think that's a big difference. But here's how big it is. Take a $100,000 portfolio. Using the long-term average growth of stock and bond portfolio of 8% a year, compounding your gains over 20 years, and deducting the 3% in fees and taxes, you'd have $265,329. But if your fees and taxes were 0.2% instead of 3%, you would have $449,133.

That's over a 70% difference! All based upon a tiny difference in fees and taxes of 2.8%.

Invest like the world's smartest investors

Those who manage endowments or investments for wealthy families speak a completely different language than what most people hear on financial cable networks or from their brokers.

Dr. Burton Malkiel William Sharpe John Bogle William Bernstein David Swensen They invest with methods that were developed by Economics and Finance Nobel Laureates and some of the world's most prominent investors like David Swensen of Yale, John Bogle who founded Vanguard, Burton Malkiel of Princeton and Dr. William Sharpe of Stanford.

We help you stand on the shoulders of these giants. Using MarketRiders, you can build an ETF portfolio with the right asset allocation for your needs. And you can trust the allocation because we've built the intelligence of the smartest finance people in the world into our software.

Until now most people have not had access to these investment methods because the tools for structuring, managing and rebalancing an ETF portfolio have not been readily available or affordable. Additionally, Wall Street doesn't generally promote all ETF portfolios because they don't stand to make high fees.

Relax knowing that we're watching your back

Sophisticated investors don't "buy and hold." Rather they increase their returns by using a strategy that lets them really "buy low and sell high."

It's called rebalancing. Until we came along, rebalancing technology had only been available to sophisticated investors who could afford systems in the tens of thousands of dollars. MarketRiders makes rebalancing easy. We monitor your portfolio 24x7 and generate specific rebalancing instructions sent via email several times yearly directing you on what to buy and sell to realign with your target percentages.

Extensive back-testing of our portfolios shows that on average, our rebalancing algorithms can add between 1% and 2% to your annual returns.

Suddenly, your retirement moves outside the realm of worry and stress, and into the realm of confidence and peace. You can go about enjoying your life, knowing that we are rigorously monitoring your portfolio and will give you the guidance you need when you need it.

Receive unbiased advice

Always remember that most investment advice given is biased depending upon how an adviser is compensated. Traditional advisers are paid commissions or ongoing fees for moving their clients into "investment products." This creates a conflict between what is best for your retirement, and what is best for the adviser's vacation.

At MarketRiders, we offer a low-cost subscription service that is used by thousands. This allows us to give you the unbiased advice you need. Unlike brokers, advisers, insurance agents and mutual fund managers that get a yearly percent of your money, or a commission selling you a financial product, we are 100% on your side. We are not affiliated with anyone nor do we receive compensation for any of the ETFs we recommend or online brokers our clients use.

We offer a free trial so there's really nothing for you to lose. If you like the results it's only a small cost per month to use our software to help you manage your portfolio. There's no hard sell or hustle. We are independent. We don't touch your money. We make no commissions. We are beholden to no one but you.

If you are a more advanced investor or financial professional, you can read about our methodology.

x David Swensen, Chief Investment Officer, Yale University
Since 1985, Mr. Swensen has been responsible for managing and investing Yale's endowment assets and investment funds, which total about $22 billion. Realizing an annual return of more than 17.2 percent on his investments over the last ten years, Swensen has added more than $16 billion to Yale's coffers. According to an analysis by investment fund research firm Morningstar, Mr. Swensen's performance tops 99% of U.S.-based mutual funds.

Mr. Swensen's book "Unconventional Success: A Fundamental Approach to Personal Investment," describes the MarketRiders investment approach. Swensen states that investors should hold six asset classes. Once target asset allocations have been set, a portfolio should rebalanced regularly to stay close to the targets. Few individual investors have the time or resources to pick stocks. "Individuals who attempt to compete with resource-rich money management organizations simply provide fodder for large institutional cannon," he writes. Well-constructed indexes from non-profit fund companies like Vanguard are the best way for most investors to own index funds.

x John Bogle, Founder of the Vanguard Group, Inc.
John Bogle invented index fund investing, the principal tool used by MarketRiders. Most people do not know that Bogle formed Vanguard as a non-profit organization in order to protect working Americans from the onerous fees charged by Wall Street. Mr. Bogle took a lot of flack over this unique concept of an index fund and was even labeled Un-American. Vanguard is now the 2nd largest fund organization in the world with current assets totaling $1 trillion.

In a speech to West Point graduates Mr. Bogle states: "You'll just have to forgive my continuing enthusiasm for indexing and my unshakable conviction that low-cost index funds are the way...listen to Jack Meyer, the former manager of Harvard's incredibly successful endowment fund: 'The investment business is a giant scam. Most people think they can find fund managers who can outperform, but most people are wrong. You should simply hold index funds. No doubt about it.'"

MarketRiders couldn't agree more. Our portfolios are built using index funds and have consistently benchmarked better than active management.

x Dr. William Sharpe, Professor of Finance, Stanford University
Dr. Sharpe was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics for originating the Capital Asset Pricing Model and devising the Sharpe Ratio for investment performance analysis. Dr. Sharpe's numerous articles and books are largely dedicated to proving that index funds are vastly superior to active management and simulating the performance, based upon various levels of risk, of well diversified asset allocation models.

Dr. Sharpe's 2002 speech "Indexed Investing: A Prosaic Way to Beat the Average Investor" is an excellent explanation of how MarketRiders works.

x Dr. Burton G. Malkiel, Professor of Economics, Princeton University
Dr. Malkiel is an economist and writer, most famous for his classic finance book A Random Walk Down Wall Street (now in its 9th edition). Dr. Malkiel also served as a member of the Council of Economic Advisers, President of the American Finance Association, and Dean of the Yale School of Management.

In his 9th and latest book, "A Random Walk Guide To Investing.." Dr. Malkiel wrote an investment book for the layperson which effectively summarizes the MarketRiders methodology of investing in low index funds across several asset classes reflecting an individual's optimal asset allocation. Malkiel outlines the benefits of index funds including lower operating costs, lower turnover, and greater tax efficiency. These advantages enable index funds to beat actively managed funds by 2 percentage points annually over time.

x William Bernstein
Mr. Bernstein has become a well-known investment author, having written "The Four Pillars of Investing," and "The Intelligent Asset Allocator." Mr. Bernstein has been a critic of Wall Street and proposes that investors buy a well-diversified portfolio of index funds based upon their risk-return profile.

Mr. Bernstein outlines the MarketRiders approach by writing extensively to help investors arrives at the "right" mix of assets while also pointing out that if over the past 10 or 20 years an investor had simply held a portfolio consisting of one quarter each of indexes of large U.S. stocks, small U.S. stocks, foreign stocks and high quality U.S. bonds, he would have beaten over 90% of all professional money managers and with considerably less risk.
